Welcome
to my Website!
Please take the time to play
a couple of the audio samples. Ive just completed my latest CD
called Crusin'. I picked some of my all time favorite 60's classics and
did my best to reproduce them with the authentic 60's sound.
Always a fan of good old rock and roll I started performing in the
late 60's when I was in college. I played drums and sang in a band called
the Benders and we played bars and college parties. We recorded a 45 in
1967 called you "Can't Tame Me." Over the years it has become a sought after
item by record collectors world wild. It has ended up on many garage band
compilation albums here and overseas.
After college I relocated to Milwaukee WI where
I enjoyed
a successful career fronting my own seven-piece classic hits show band
Barry's Truckers. The band played nightclubs and large outdoor festivals during
the summer and was the top nostalgic act in the area for years.
The group had the privilege of opening for many of the
rock and roll pioneers such as the Everly Brothers, the late greats Roy
Orbison and Ricky Nelson, The Temptations, The Beach Boys, Grass Roots,
Paul Revere and the Raiders, and the list goes on and on. Over the years
we've done many live recordings including 45's, albums and CD's.
In 1993 I did my first solo
project, "Paul Barry and the Remnants", in my home studio. It
was kind of retro sounding roots rock project. There were thirteen songs
on the cassette- only release. Six obscure covers and seven self-penned
originals.
My next solo effort came in 1999 when I hooked up with a rockabilly/swing
unit called the Convertibles. We put out a great little CD called Rockin
and Stompin. The fourteen-track CD included 13 old obscure covers
that included the genres of rockabilly, swing and 50s rock. I also
penned one odd little song on the CD called "The Girl with the Magic
Lips"
In 2001 and one I reunited with long time friend and one of the founding
members of Barry's Truckers, Dennis "Big Daddy Dirtball" Shaske, to record
and perform some of our favorite oldies as a duo.
.For quite a few years Ive
wanted to do another solo project. As I surfed the web listening to and
buying CDs from many great independent artists, I started collecting a
lot of country influenced roots rock songs. After awhile I knew I wanted
to record some of these tunes, but I just couldnt seem to find the
time. Finally in 2005
I contacted Dave Neitzke, one of the best engineer/producers in the area.
He hooked me up with the Del Reys, and we started recording. I couldnt
have found a nicer group of people to work with and what a great bunch
of players. The "in the pocket groove" was provided by Gary
Koehler on drums and Donn Trampe on bass. Ryan Rossebo provided all the
great electric guitar and mandolin work. Gary also came out from behind
the drums to add harmony vocals and a cool acoustic guitar solo. Other
talented local musicians provided great guest appearances. Violin parts
were added by Susan Jeske-Dermody and Jim Herman(currently on tour with
Carrie Underwood). Tom Reifenberg provided
the honky tonk keyboards. Eddie Rivers, who was just about to leave on
tour with
"Asleep at the Wheel" at the time, added the sweet steel guitar parts as
well as singing the lead on "Alcohol of Fame". I cant
thank all these people enough for their wonderful performances. A huge
thank you to Dave who pulled this whole project together. I also have
to give a special thanks to Phil Friso from my brothers advertising
agency, A.G. Barry Associates, for creating all the art work for the CD
and designing this website.
The newest CD's came out in
2007. The Barry's Farewell Tour CD contains 22 fan favorites from over the
years. We had an absolutely great run and made some good friends along the
way.
For my very latest CD I recorded a 17 song CD of some of my favorite 60's
pop songs. I've always enjoyed songs with sing a long choruses and plenty
of harmony. I hope you enjoy the CD and I'm looking forward to
rocking and rolling in Florida.
